Origin Story: Most every musician in Western Pennsylvania is a fan of the Tom Hanks film “That Thing You Do“. Over time it dawned on us: We’ve actually played rock and roll shows in Erie, Youngstown, Steubenville, and Pittsburgh. We *are* a real-life Wonders band.
Introducing Radio 45 — a self-proclaimed “O-Needers” band just like the guys in the Tom Hanks film “That Thing You Do“. One difference: These guys live is Western Pennsylvania and have been playing real rock-and-roll shows here for decades.
These guys have played have Erie, Youngstown, Steubenville, Pittsburgh — just like Jimmy, Lenny and Guy “Skitch” Patterson did in the 1996 film. But these guys are real musicians, and have been playing gigs all over western Pennsylvania for decades.
But every once in a while — they get to play a great show.
In reality — these guys know how to pack a western-Pennsylvanian dance floor — that is their origin story. With varied lineups and under different names with a common thread, we’ve played over 1,000 shows in western Pennsylvania.
They know what songs work — and what songs don’t. They’ve been ripped off. Underpaid. Played to an empty room. Electrocuted at a Roller Rink (and survived). They’ve had equipment fall out of the trailer. Been accosted by super-fans and people who hate them. They’ve played in rain, snow and sunshine — and because they’re from Western Pennsylvania they know well that could all happen in a single day. They’ve driven up and down Interstate 79 and State Route 28. They’ve criss-crossed the state on Routes 70 and 80. They’ve suffered blown tires, ran out of gas, and have experienced every kind of mechanical breakdown (on the stage and off). It really is a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll. But every once in a while — they get to play a great show.
A real-life “Wonders” band right here from western Pennsylvania
We adore infectious grooves and a danceable beat. We make the music that moves you.
At a club or a dance hall our focus is keeping the dance floor packed. A night with us is a celebration of music in motion. Wanna get out on the dance floor? Come see us live.
In the studio we capture music in motion. We record new music — and we breath new life into some of the best songs ever written.
Much of our studio work is focused on the best music recorded in the early days of rock-and-roll — over 50 years ago. Songs were created in the 1960’s era that got people moving: rock and roll, swing, rockabilly. We’re all about that.
Sadly, many of those musical compositions just don’t hold up on modern listening devices. They can sound flat — or dull. They can sound boring when compared to today’s modern arrangements captured on state-of-the-art recording equipment. It’s just not right. We’re here to fix that.
We rescue these songs: we give them a little musical TLC. Then we test the result with live audiences week after week. When they love it — we record it. When audiences really love it — we make and release a record.
We’ve assembled a collection of our most-loved western-Pennsylvania dance hall tunes, re-imagined, and are releasing them on a new record titled “Drop The Needle”. We can’t wait for you to hear it!

The musicians appearing on this project have (collectively) released a dozen albums, scored a #2 hit single, sang the national anthem at a Pirates game in Three Rivers Stadium — and have played just about every room from Erie to Pittsburgh and in-between. You may have seen them in bands like Ten point Ten, Ten Till Destiny, The Aaron Greer Band, Trixx, CHAZ, Empty Pockets, Mainstream, 121mercystreet. All of these bands share a common thread. We’re a western Pennsylvania everyband.
But none of us have ever met Tom Hanks. “We’re still hoping to meet the real ‘Mr. White’ in person.“
